By default the Samsung Blackjack uses the 3G network when it is available. This is great if you want to browse the web or do other things on your data connection since 3G is a fast network. The only downside is that the samsung blackjack uses up more battery power when on a 3G network.
If you need to squeeze out some more battery life on your phone and don't mind that your data connection will be slower here is a tip you can use. You can setup a utility that lets you easily navigate between 3G and the Edge network. Here are the details from BlackJackUsers.com.
1. Connect to BlackJack via Active Sync.
2. Explore to mobile device (click Explore in active sync from PC)
3. double click My Windows Mobile Based Device
4. Browse to Windows directory (you may need to disable “Hide Protected operating system files” in Windows Folder Options)
5. Select the file “BandSel.exe”
6. Right click and choose Create Shortcut.
7. Go to bottom of file list, and CUT the new “Shortcut to BandSel.exe” file.
8. Drop into the Windows\StartMenu directory where ever you’d like it.
Once this is installed when you want to save battery life just select gsm850 (Edge network) as your option. When you want to go back to 3G select Auto.
